Sedation dentistry for Cornelius — quick facts

  • Drive time: ~10 minutes via TV Highway + Baseline Street
  • Three sedation options: nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, IV sedation
  • Spanish-speaking team for consent, history, and post-sedation instructions
  • OHP accepted for eligible patients
  • Cost ranges (2026): nitrous $50-$150, oral Halcion $250-$450, IV $600-$1,200
  • Phone: (503) 614-0198

What Sedation Options Do You Offer?

Three levels, defined by the American Dental Association and matched to your anxiety, procedure, and medical history.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) — $50-$150 (2026)

For mild anxiety and shorter procedures. Inhaled through a small scented mask (kids usually pick bubble gum or strawberry). Effects start in 3-5 minutes and clear within 5-10 minutes after the mask is removed. Drive yourself back to Cornelius — no escort needed, no fasting required.

Oral Conscious Sedation (Halcion / triazolam) — $250-$450 (2026)

For moderate anxiety and longer procedures. A prescription Halcion (triazolam) tablet taken 30 to 60 minutes before the appointment. You stay responsive to verbal cues but feel deeply relaxed and often have hazy memory of the procedure. NPO 6 hours before (water OK up to 2 hours). Driver required — Halcion impairs reaction time and judgment for 8-12 hours after the dose.

IV Sedation — $600-$1,200 (2026)

For severe phobia, complex surgery, or combining multiple procedures into one visit. Delivered through a small IV by an oral-surgery-trained doctor with continuous monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation (SpO2). Most patients remember nothing of the procedure. NPO 6 hours before. Driver and medical clearance required. ASA Class I/II patients are straightforward; we won’t IV-sedate ASA Class III without primary care physician clearance. Complex IV cases for medically-compromised patients we refer to anesthesiologist-staffed sedation centers.

How Long Is the Drive from Cornelius?

From the Cornelius Town Center area (Baseline Street and N. Adair), about 15 minutes in normal traffic — Baseline Street east, continue on TV Highway, then north on NE Cornelius Pass Road or Cornell Road, and left onto NE Shaleen Street. Free parking directly in front. From the OR-8 / TV Highway corridor closer to Hillsboro, drive time stays around 10 minutes.

For oral or IV sedation, your driver follows the same route in reverse. Most Cornelius patients tell us the short drive home post-IV is one of the smaller-but-real reasons they chose us over Beaverton or Portland sedation offices.

Am I a Good Candidate for Sedation?

Sedation makes sense if any of these apply:

  • You have avoided the dentist for months or years because of fear
  • You have a strong gag reflex that makes routine cleanings or X-rays difficult
  • You need a long or complex procedure — implants, multiple extractions, full-mouth work
  • Local anesthetic alone has not numbed you well in the past
  • You have special needs or a condition that makes routine dental care overwhelming
  • You want to combine procedures into one visit to minimize time off work
  • For oral or IV sedation, Dr. Ostovar reviews your medical history first. ASA Class I (healthy) and Class II (mild well-controlled systemic disease) patients are straightforward candidates. ASA Class III patients — uncontrolled diabetes, severe sleep apnea, recent cardiac event, certain heart/lung conditions — need primary care physician clearance before IV sedation. We follow American Society of Anesthesiologists screening and monitoring guidelines. Complex IV cases for medically-compromised patients we refer to anesthesiologist-staffed sedation centers in the Portland metro area.

    Is Sedation Safe?

Yes, when administered by a trained provider with proper monitoring. We follow ASA and ADA safety protocols. Before every sedated procedure we review your medical history and current medications. Throughout the procedure we monitor blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation continuously. Severe adverse events are rare. The most common side effect is brief grogginess from oral or IV sedation that wears off within several hours.

Tell us during the consultation call about any past reactions to sedation or anesthesia. We may adjust the protocol or recommend a different sedation level.

    Cost and Payment Options

    | Sedation Type | Cost Range (2026) | Driver Required |

    | IV Sedation | $600 – $1,200 | Yes |

    What Happens on Appointment Day?

For nitrous oxide: arrive on time, no fasting, no special prep. Mask on, procedure done, mask off, drive home.

    For oral or IV sedation:

  • No food or drink for 6 hours before (water okay up to 2 hours before for oral sedation)
  • Loose, comfortable clothing; short sleeves help with IV access
  • Arrive 15 minutes early to confirm medical history
  • Your driver can wait in the office or return at a scheduled pickup time
  • After the procedure you rest in our recovery area until cleared
  • Plan the rest of the day off — no driving, no work, no operating equipment for 24 hours

    Post-Sedation Care for Cornelius Patients

Frequently Asked Questions — Sedation Dentist Cornelius

Do you accept OHP for Cornelius patients?

Yes. We accept Oregon Health Plan for eligible patients. OHP coverage for sedation depends on the specific procedure and medical necessity criteria. We verify your benefits before scheduling so the out-of-pocket cost is clear up front.

How long is the drive from Cornelius?

About 10 minutes in normal traffic — Baseline Street east to TV Highway, then north to NE Shaleen Street. From the OR-8 / TV Highway corridor, drive time stays around 10 minutes. Free parking directly in front of the office.

Can I have multiple procedures done in one sedation visit?

Yes. Many Cornelius patients prefer this — one day off work instead of three or four separate appointments. IV sedation in particular allows us to safely combine implant placement, extractions, multiple fillings, or other treatment into a single 2 to 4 hour visit.

I have not seen a dentist in years. Will you judge me?

No. We see patients every week who have avoided care for 5, 10, or even 15 years. There is no judgment. The first appointment is a judgment-free consultation where we discuss what care you need and design a plan that feels safe and manageable for you.

    Can children receive sedation?

Nitrous oxide is commonly used for anxious children. Oral and IV sedation for children are evaluated case by case based on age, weight, and medical history. The children’s VIP Membership Plan is $199 per year and includes 15% off treatment, including sedation.

Will I be unconscious during sedation?

Not with nitrous oxide or oral sedation — you stay conscious and can respond to verbal cues. With IV sedation you reach a deeper state where most patients remember nothing of the procedure, but you are not fully unconscious. We do not offer general anesthesia at our office.

What if I’ve had a bad reaction to sedation or anesthesia in the past?

Tell us during the consultation call. We’ll review exactly what happened, which medications were used, and what the reaction was. Many reactions are normal side effects like grogginess or nausea that can be managed with medication or a different sedation protocol. True allergic reactions are rare — if you’ve had one, we may adjust the medication or recommend a different sedation level.
