Implant-Supported Dentures in Hillsboro — Stable, Snap-In or Fixed

If your dentures slip when you eat, click when you talk, or have made you give up on certain foods entirely, implant-supported dentures solve that. Two to four implants placed in your jawbone hold the denture firmly in place — either as a snap-in overdenture you can remove for cleaning, or as a fixed All-on-4 bridge that stays in your mouth permanently. Call (503) 614-0198 to schedule a consultation at our Hillsboro office. Dr. Merat Ostovar, DMD, FAGD handles both the planning and restorative phases of implant-supported dentures from our Hillsboro office.

What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are a full set of replacement teeth (an arch) anchored by dental implants surgically placed in the jawbone, instead of resting loose on the gums like traditional dentures. The American Academy of Implant Dentistry considers implant-supported overdentures the standard of care for edentulous patients (people missing all teeth in an arch) because they restore far more chewing force and prevent the bone shrinkage that traditional dentures cannot stop.

There are two main forms:

Snap-in overdenture (removable) — typically 2-4 implants per arch. The denture has small attachments (locator caps) on the underside that snap onto matching abutments on the implants. You take it out for cleaning, you snap it back in. No adhesive, no slipping.

Fixed All-on-4 (permanent) — typically 4-6 implants per arch supporting a fixed bridge of teeth. The bridge is screwed in and only your dentist can remove it (usually for periodic deep cleaning). It feels and functions much closer to natural teeth.

Both options are dramatically better than traditional dentures for stability, chewing force, and bone preservation. The right choice depends on your bone, your priorities, and your budget.

Why Are Implant-Supported Dentures Better Than Traditional Dentures?

Traditional dentures rest on the gums and are held in place by suction, the shape of your jaw, and adhesive. As the years pass, the jawbone underneath shrinks (because there are no tooth roots to stimulate it), the denture stops fitting, and you need it relined or remade every 5-7 years. You also lose chewing force — most denture wearers can only eat at about 25-30% of natural bite force.

Implant-supported dentures fix all of this:

  • No slipping. The implants lock the denture in place. You can eat steak, corn on the cob, and apples again.
  • Bone preservation. Implants stimulate the jawbone the way natural tooth roots do, slowing or stopping bone shrinkage.
  • Better chewing force. Snap-in overdentures restore 60-80% of natural chewing force. Fixed All-on-4 restores 90%+.
  • No palate coverage (for upper arches). With fixed All-on-4 we can usually eliminate the plastic palate that covers the roof of the mouth in traditional dentures — food tastes better and speech is more natural.
  • Longer lifespan. The implants typically last 20+ years (often a lifetime). The denture or bridge superstructure may need refurbishing at 10-15 years.
  • “The single thing patients tell me after we finish All-on-4 is that they had no idea how much chewing they had given up. They start eating things they had not eaten in 10 or 15 years. That is the whole point of doing this.” — Dr. Merat Ostovar, DMD, FAGD

Snap-In Overdenture vs. All-on-4 Fixed Bridge — Which Is Right for You?

    | Factor | Snap-In Overdenture | All-on-4 Fixed Bridge |
    |—|—|—|
    | Implants per arch | 2-4 | 4-6 |
    | Removable? | Yes — you take it out at night | No — only Dr. Ostovar removes it |
    | Chewing force restored | 60-80% of natural | 90%+ of natural |
    | Cost per arch | $15,000-$30,000 | $20,000-$40,000 |
    | Bone requirement | Lower — works for most patients | Higher — may need bone grafting |
    | Daily cleaning | Take out, brush, soak | Brush like natural teeth, water flosser under bridge |
    | Best for | Budget-conscious; comfort with removable; lower bone | Patients who want fixed teeth that never come out |

A snap-in overdenture is the more affordable option and the easiest to clean — you take it out every night and brush it like you would a regular denture, then snap it back in the morning. A fixed All-on-4 is closer to having natural teeth — it never comes out, and you brush it in your mouth — but it costs more and requires more bone (or a bone graft / sinus lift).

For most patients who can afford it and have adequate bone, All-on-4 is the better long-term experience. But the snap-in overdenture is a legitimate, well-proven solution that has restored function for hundreds of patients in our practice.

What Happens at an Implant-Supported Denture Appointment?

The full process takes 4-9 months from first consultation to final teeth, depending on whether bone grafting is needed and which option you choose.

    Step 1 — Consultation and 3D Imaging (1-2 hours)

Dr. Ostovar evaluates your case thoroughly. We take a CBCT (cone beam CT) scan of your jaw to measure bone height, width, and density, and to map nerves and sinuses. We discuss snap-in vs. fixed, look at your gum and tissue health, and review your medical history. You leave with a written treatment plan and itemized cost.

    Step 2 — Pre-Surgical Preparation (variable)

If you still have failing teeth in the arch, they need to be extracted. If you have insufficient bone, bone grafting or a sinus lift is done before implant placement. Healing from extractions or grafts takes 3-6 months before implants can be placed.

Step 3 — Implant Placement (2-4 hours surgical visit)

Dr. Ostovar places the implants under local anesthesia, typically with IV sedation for comfort. For All-on-4, this is often combined with extraction of any remaining teeth and placement of an immediate temporary denture in the same visit (“teeth-in-a-day”). For snap-in overdentures, a healing cap is placed and you wear your existing denture (relined for comfort) during healing.

    Step 4 — Osseointegration / Healing (3-6 months)

The implants need 3-6 months to fuse with the jawbone (osseointegration). During this time you wear a temporary denture. We see you for short check visits to monitor healing.

    Step 5 — Final Restoration (2-4 visits)

Once integration is confirmed, Dr. Ostovar takes digital impressions and the lab fabricates your final denture or fixed bridge. We try in the framework, verify the bite and aesthetics, and then attach the final teeth. For snap-in: we set the locator attachments. For All-on-4: we screw the final bridge in place.

    Step 6 — Maintenance

You come in twice a year for cleanings just like a natural-tooth patient. We monitor the implants, the bite, and the soft tissue. The implants last 20+ years; the denture or bridge superstructure may need refurbishing or a new set of teeth at 10-15 years.

    Am I a Candidate for Implant-Supported Dentures?

Most patients who have lost most or all of their teeth in an arch are candidates. According to the American College of Prosthodontists, implant-supported dentures provide superior bone preservation and chewing efficiency compared to conventional dentures, making them the preferred treatment for most edentulous patients. Key factors:

  • Adequate bone — Dr. Ostovar uses CBCT imaging to measure bone height and density. If bone is insufficient, bone grafting or a sinus lift can usually create enough volume.
  • Healthy gums and oral hygiene — active gum disease must be controlled first.
  • Reasonably healthy overall — uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking, and certain medications (such as IV bisphosphonates for cancer) increase the risk of implant failure. We discuss your specific medical situation honestly.
  • Realistic expectations — implants are a 4-9 month process and a meaningful investment. They are not a same-day fix in most cases.
  • If you have been told elsewhere that you are not a candidate due to bone loss, get a second opinion. Modern bone grafting and tilted implant techniques (the “All-on-4” concept developed by Dr. Paulo Maló) have made it possible to restore even severely atrophic jaws.

How Much Do Implant-Supported Dentures Cost in Hillsboro?

    | Treatment | Typical Cost (Per Arch) |
    |—|—|
    | Snap-in overdenture (2 implants + denture) | $15,000-$22,000 |
    | Snap-in overdenture (4 implants + denture) | $22,000-$30,000 |
    | All-on-4 fixed bridge (4 implants + temporary + final fixed bridge) | $20,000-$30,000 |
    | All-on-6 fixed bridge (premium materials, 6 implants) | $30,000-$40,000 |
    | Bone grafting (per site) | $800-$2,000 |
    | Sinus lift (per side, when needed for upper arch) | $1,500-$3,000 |

Both arches at once (full-mouth restoration with implant-supported dentures) typically lands at $30,000-$60,000 total — most offices, including ours, offer a discount when both arches are done together.

Insurance: Most dental plans cover the denture portion ($1,000-$2,000) and may contribute toward extractions, but rarely cover the implant placement itself. We verify your specific benefits and provide a written estimate.

No insurance? Use our VIP Membership Plan: $299/year for adults, 15% off all treatment with no annual maximum and no waiting periods. On a $25,000 case, that is $3,750 in savings — the membership pays for itself many times over. 100% of payments accumulate as credit toward future treatment.

Financing: CareCredit (24-month and 60-month plans), Sunbit, and Cherry Health. Most patients finance large cases over 36-60 months at $400-$700 per month.

Get a Written Plan Before You Commit to Anything

Most patients come to the consultation with one question: “Am I actually a candidate, and what will this cost for my specific situation?” That’s exactly what the consultation answers. We take a CBCT scan to measure your bone volume, evaluate your gum health, and walk through which option — snap-in overdenture vs. fixed All-on-4 bridge — fits your anatomy and priorities. You leave with a written treatment plan and itemized cost estimate, not a vague ballpark.

Your implant denture consultation at our Hillsboro office includes:

  • CBCT (cone beam) scan to measure bone height, width, and density and map nerve and sinus proximity
  • Clinical exam of remaining teeth, gum tissue health, and bite relationships
  • Side-by-side comparison of snap-in overdenture vs. All-on-4 fixed bridge for your specific bone structure
  • Written treatment timeline from consultation to final teeth (typically 4–9 months total)
  • Itemized cost estimate with insurance verification and financing pre-qualification options
  • Referral coordination if bone grafting or specialist care is needed before implant placement
  • Call (503) 614-0198 or request a consultation online — we’ll spend 60–90 minutes on your imaging and answer every question. Many patients from Intel and Nike schedule consultations during a lunch break or after work.

Frequently Asked Questions — Implant-Supported Dentures Hillsboro

How much do implant-supported dentures cost per arch in Oregon?

Across Oregon, snap-in implant overdentures run $15,000-$30,000 per arch and fixed All-on-4 bridges $20,000-$40,000 per arch as of 2026. At our Hillsboro office on Shaleen Street: a 2-implant snap-in lands $15,000-$22,000; a 4-implant snap-in $22,000-$30,000; All-on-4 fixed bridge $20,000-$30,000; All-on-6 with premium materials $30,000-$40,000. Both arches together: $30,000-$60,000 total. Bone grafting (if your CBCT shows you need it) adds $500-$2,000 per site; sinus lift $1,500-$3,000. CareCredit, Cherry Health, and Sunbit financing put most cases at $400-$700 monthly over 36-60 months. VIP Membership saves 15%.

How many implants are needed for implant-supported dentures?

Depends on which type. Snap-in overdenture (removable): 2 implants per arch is the lower-cost minimum and works well for most lower arches; 4 implants gives more stability and is preferred for upper arches. Fixed All-on-4 bridge: 4 implants per arch — two vertical in front, two angled in back to engage available bone without sinus lift. Fixed All-on-6: 6 implants for patients with heavier bite forces or larger arch span. Dr. Ostovar makes the call from your CBCT — clinical decision based on bone, not a sales upgrade.

    Are implant-supported dentures removable?

Depends on type. Snap-in overdentures are removable by you — you take them out every night, brush them like a regular denture, snap them back in the morning. The locator caps on the underside snap onto matching abutments on the implants with light pressure. Fixed All-on-4 bridges are NOT removable by you — they’re screwed into the implants and only Dr. Ostovar can unscrew them (which we do every 5-7 years for ultrasonic cleaning). Most patients who choose fixed All-on-4 do so specifically because they don’t want a nightly routine.

Can I eat normally with implant-supported dentures?

Yes — that’s the whole point. Snap-in overdentures restore 60-80% of natural chewing force; fixed All-on-4 restores 90%+. Compare that to traditional dentures at 25-30%. Most patients tell us they had no idea how much chewing they’d given up over the years. Steak, apples, corn on the cob, crusty bread — back on the menu within about 6 weeks of getting the temporary teeth. The honest exception: very hard items (popcorn kernels, ice cubes, hard candies) we still recommend avoiding to protect the prosthesis.

How long do implant-supported dentures last?

The titanium implants themselves typically last 20+ years and often the rest of your life. The denture or fixed bridge superstructure on top is the wear part: snap-in overdentures usually need new locator caps every 1-2 years and the denture itself may need refurbishing at 7-10 years. Fixed All-on-4 bridges last 7-10 years for acrylic-on-titanium, 15-20+ years for zirconia. Compare to traditional dentures (relines every 1-2 years, remakes every 5-7 years). Implant-supported is the longer-term and lower-total-cost option.

    Is the implant-denture process painful?

Not during the procedure. Dr. Ostovar uses local anesthesia for placement; we add IV sedation if you want to be relaxed (most full-arch cases get IV sedation given the procedure length). Most patients sleep through it or remember very little. Afterward, expect 3-7 days of pressure soreness controlled by 600mg ibuprofen every 6 hours plus ice packs the first 48 hours. Most Hillsboro patients are back to desk work in 2-3 days. The honest hard part isn’t pain — it’s the 6-week soft-food restriction while bone integrates.

Can I get implant-supported dentures if I’ve had bone loss?

Often yes — get a CBCT-based second opinion if you’ve been told no elsewhere. Modern bone grafting, sinus lifts, and tilted-implant techniques (the All-on-4 angled posterior placement) make implants possible for many patients who weren’t candidates 10-15 years ago. Dr. Ostovar’s implant surgical training plus advanced CBCT planning lets us handle cases with significant resorption. The honest exception: severe atrophy where even angled implants can’t get primary stability — those cases we refer to specialty centers in Portland for zygomatic implants.

What’s the recovery time for implant-supported dentures?

Surgical recovery is 7-10 days for soft tissue healing — most patients back to desk work in 2-3 days, physical labor 5-7 days. Then a 3-6 month osseointegration period during which the bone fuses to the titanium; you wear a temporary denture during this phase (you’re never without teeth). Final prosthesis seating is 2-4 short visits across 4-6 weeks at the end of integration. Total: 4-9 months from consultation to final teeth. Patients commuting from Intel Ronler Acres or Beaverton typically schedule the surgical visit on a Thursday for weekend recovery.

How is cleaning different than for traditional dentures?

Snap-in overdenture: take it out at night, brush with soft-bristle brush and non-abrasive denture cleaner, soak overnight, snap back in the morning. Plus: clean around the implant abutments in your mouth with a soft brush and water flosser daily. Fixed All-on-4: brush like natural teeth twice a day, but the critical addition is a Waterpik (water flosser) under the bridge daily — string floss alone doesn’t reach the bridge underside where biofilm collects. Professional cleanings every 3 months for the first year, then every 4-6 months. Both options need much more rigorous hygiene than traditional gum-supported dentures.

Do implant-supported dentures qualify for medical financing?

Yes — and given the case sizes ($15,000-$60,000), most patients use it. We work with three lenders: CareCredit (0% interest for 6, 12, or 24 months on qualifying balances), Cherry Health (soft credit check, plans up to 60 months, often more accessible than CareCredit for fair credit), and Sunbit (instant in-office approval, plans 6-72 months). Typical monthly payments: $400-$700 over 36-60 months for a single-arch case. We also accept HSA and FSA cards — Intel and Nike employees often use HSA dollars to cover the implant portion. The VIP Membership Plan ($299/year, 15% discount) layers on top.
