What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Your first visit takes approximately 60–90 minutes. Here is what happens:
1. Warm Welcome and Medical History Review
When you arrive, our front desk team will greet you by name and walk you through any remaining paperwork. If you completed your forms online (see below), this step takes just a few minutes. We will review your medical history, current medications, allergies, and any dental concerns you want us to address.
2. Digital X-Rays and Imaging
We use digital X-rays that produce instant, high-resolution images with 90% less radiation than traditional film. Depending on your situation, Dr. Ostovar may also recommend a panoramic X-ray or 3D CBCT scan for a complete picture of your teeth, jaw, and bone structure.
3. Comprehensive Dental Exam
Dr. Ostovar (or Dr. Youngblood or Dr. Gvozden, depending on scheduling) will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints, and oral tissues — including an oral cancer screening. We take our time during this step because understanding your complete dental picture is the foundation for any treatment.
4. Professional Cleaning
Our hygienist will perform a professional cleaning, removing plaque and tartar buildup. If significant gum disease is present, we may recommend a deeper cleaning (scaling and root planing) at a follow-up visit.
5. Discussion and Treatment Plan
After your exam, your doctor will sit down with you — face to face, not rushing — and explain what we found, show you X-ray images, and discuss any recommended treatment. We will answer every question and never pressure you into anything. If treatment is needed, we will provide a written treatment plan with estimated costs and insurance coverage before you leave.
