A friend of mine has recently had himself fitted for a set of those clear braces which almost everyone seems to be on about lately. I'll be honest, he didn't exactly have a Hollywood smile. In fact when he grinned it was enough to make small children cry and grown men grimace. Looking like Shrek wasn't so much a comparison as an ambition.
However, he is a good deal more optimistic about smiling in public now that he has gone down the road of visiting an Invisalign Hillsboro dentist and having his own set of invisible braces. I thought that for anyone else who may be considering the various merits of invisible braces it might be helpful to recount my friend's experience, as it's not always obvious from the advertising blurb just what's involved.
One of the main reasons why my friend decided to invest in a teeth alignment process was because his teeth looked really quite inelegant. This was mainly because as a child his milk teeth were in such good condition that they refused to come out, even though his adult teeth were all coming through. He ended up with a full set of adult teeth, plus six milk teeth all in his mouth, and this necessarily meant that things were a little crowded in there.
He actually had to visit a Hillsboro dentist to have his stubborn milk teeth forcibly extracted, and at the time the Hillsboro dentist recommended fitting him for a traditional metal brace. This was of course before the time of Invisalign and clear braces, when metal braces were the only option. My friend did really fancy wearing a metal brace for two or three years, and so just accepted that he had a bit of a dental hillsboro jumble going on inside his head, but was told that his teeth may well sort themselves out over time.
Well, they didn't really. It's ironic that the main reason he did want to wear a metal brace in his teens was because of his self image, yet years later his untidy teeth cause him concern because of his self image. I don't think he'd have ever opted for metal braces though, but when he came across some Invisalign advertising information he was immediately interested.
He booked an appointment with an Invisalign Hillsboro dentist who assessed the health of his teeth. I was quite surprised to hear this actually, because in today's market it seems that businesses will take on anyone flapping money about. Invisalign it seems will only offer their treatment to people whose teeth and gums are in a healthy condition, so this was reassuring.
The next step was to have a highly detailed scan of his mouth taken. This is much more than an x-ray. Amazingly a computer generated virtual reality model of my friend's entire mouth was created (I do hope he'd brushed his teeth thoroughly – 3d virtual reality breakfast cereal wedged in your molars is not a good thought.) After this there was a period of waiting Before my friend was called back to his Invisalign Hillsboro dentist where he was fitted with his first set of clear braces.
This surprised me, because normally you only need one set of braces. However, because Invisalign's invisible braces are so thin, making them virtually undetectable, they need to be replaced about every two weeks. He's been popping in for a quick checkup and to collect his next set of braces for a few weeks now, and already you can see there's a difference. In fact it's astonishing just how quickly they achieve a result, with the teeth alignment process usually completed in around half the time of normal braces.
Of course, now the problem is that I'm starting to look in the mirror myself. I don't think I could bear being shown up by my friend's smile now after all these years of friendly taunting! At least if I do choose to sneak off to have some clear braces fitted he won't know unless I tell him!
